Riding Day 17. Klaipeda to Nida.

Thursday 4 Aug  Klaipeda to Nida.   70km.   Total 1110km
Woke up to rain, so took a while to get going.   As we were riding through town, a Dutch couple, Rosarijn and Cyrille, recognised us as being Mark's friends (the kangaroo badges).

We had a coffee with them before catching the ferry out to the Curonian spit.   We didn't start riding until about 3pm.
The Curonian spit is fascinating.   A dedicated bike track.

A large sand dune to west hiding the Baltic Sea, for most the of the way.

We spent most the time riding through deciduous and coniferous forests.   The colors of the moss and lichen were stunning .   We even saw some wildlife - a stoat (well we think that's what it was), a fox, a deer.
We deviated from the bike track to have a look at the eastern side of the spit.   I didn't check, but apparently it's freshwater.

Unfortunately, the rain came.   It seems to come in huge drenching cloud bursts.   So we arrived in Nida wet, and the camp site was packed.   Eventually found a spot for the tent in amongst the masses.   The showers were good though, and we could buy some dinner.   We caught up with our Vespa riding mates again.   We first came across them at the campground in Klaipeda.   They've done some amazing adventures, particularly Alex who rode from Alaska to Ushuaia on it.
