Riding Day 10 Tallin to Laulasmaa

Wednesday July 27.  64km.  Total distance 697km
Tallin to Laulasmaa
It’s mayhem getting off the ferry.  Trying to get 4 bike panniers, a tent and a handlebar bag down narrow people filled corridors all in one load is a challenge.
We headed off towards the centre of Tallinn and Dermot realised he was missing his gloves.  Figured he’d dropped them while loading his bike, so headed back to the ferry, but no luck.
Rode into Tallinn old town centre to find a coffee shop with good wifi to try and plan where we would head to. Estonia aims for everyone to have good internet access and is progressive with its use.  Elections are held online.
We rode around Tallinn – had to take our bikes as nowhere to leave them and our gear.  Crowded cobbled streets were a bit of a challenge.
I rode in sandals so that I could get my feet out quickly!  There is a walled lower town and another walled town up on the hill, with another wall around both. Lots of lovely old buildings and churches.

Eventually away riding about 3pm.  Beautiful cycle path leading out of Tallinn for about the first 30km.

At the end of the bike path, came across a fruit stall with blueberries, black currants, strawberries, gooseberries, watermelon, tomatoes and lots more.  Bought some field blueberries (they also had larger commercially grown ones), cherries and tomatoes to take with us.
We were then on a pretty busy road, fortunately with a decent shoulder.

There are lots of campsites in Estonia, and you can free camp almost anywhere.  It’s nice to find somewhere for a hot shower at the end of the day though.  The campsite where we’d planned to stay had a private function happening so wasn’t available.  It was now about 7pm and we were keen to find somewhere.
We were directed into Laulasmaa where there was a shop and a track to the beach to a free camp.  Along the way we came across a hotel/beach resort so decided to stay there instead.  The place was full of families having a beachside holiday.

Actual swimming isn’t much of an option here though – you have to walk out about 500m before it’s even deep enough to dive in!
