Train from Riga to Jelgava then from their to Joniskis
Checked out the markets in central Riga. Fantastic.
Lots of berries and mushrooms
Spices
The markets are housed in a series of old WW1 Zeppelin hangers.
We couldn't get our bikes on the bus to Klaipeda. We met up with a German guy Markus also trying to get there, so we joined ranks. He knew of an option to catch a train 45km south to Jelgava, ride a 90km further south and catch another train to Klaipeda so we went for that. For Dermot, me and our 2 bikes, the 45km train trip cost about $7!
The ride south from Jelgava was dead straight on a fairly busy road. We were lucky yet again to dodge a thunderstorm by pulling into about the only petrol station we saw, just as the rain began.
The only other bit of interest was crossing the border into Lithuania.
Found a pleasant hotel in Joniskis for the night. Markus kept going, but we'll probably see him again tomorrow.
