Saturday 10 September
Arvig to Biertan 69km. Total 2592km.
Pleasant riding today through undulating countryside, with hills in the distance
We met up with this group of Romanian Mtn bikers from Sibiu who were heading up into the mountains for the night and staying in a fully catered camp up there. Nice way to travel.
We see the full range of transport in Romania, from BMWs and Mercedes and 4WD Porsches to horse and cart.
We travelled through quite a few small villages. A lot of them have the year they were built written on them. The earliest ones were the early 1800s.
At the top of one of the hills, we came across this group of Romanians, all in their 70s, out for a picnic. They insisted on feeding us food and home made wine.
Dermot and I had a bet earlier in the day on whether the mtn bike riders we saw would come and talk to us. I lost, so this is the beer I had to buy Dermot.
We were glad to arrive in Biertan. It was only about 4pm but over 30 deg. The town is known for its fortified castle.
