Scootering around Paros Island in the Aegean Sea

Scootering around Paros Island in the Aegean Sea
Saturday to Monday October 22 - 24

We were up at 5.30am to get the Metro to Pireas ready for a 7.30 departure on the ferry. Our AirBnB host Lavinia came at 5.45 to lock our excess baggage away and get our key, and brought us some fresh bakery rings to take with us.
Leaving Pireas

We were on a ferry the same as this one

Just as well it wasn't this one

It was a 4 hour trip out to Paros Island.  Very smooth sailing.
Our hotel host met us at the port and took us to our hotel.  Lovely quaint place - La Serini, with a balcony overlooking the sea.  We were given a carafe of wine to welcome us.  How nice.

We spent the afternoon exploring nearby and checking out where we could hire a scooter tomorrow.

Day 2 on Paros.
Off to get our 80cc scooter then exploring.
Fresh fish available

Up on one of the hills watching a ferry leave

Crystal clear water

It must have been warm - even got Dermot in for a swim.  The water was so nice.

The rust on this bike was unbelievable, but didn't seem to worry the old bloke riding it

This was a lovely little ceramic place in Lefkes where I bought a necklace
We did a loop around the northern part of the island then cut back through the middle back to Paros.  We came across this sign so headed in to explore.  Apparently Marathi marble is famous and during its peak production in the Roman times was using 150,000 slaves to operate it.  It was like a mine, and we had to use our phones as torch light.  We must have gone in at least 100m and still hadn't come to the end.  Napolean's tomb and Venus di Milo were made using Marathi marble.

Back at the hotel for some more drinks on the balcony.

Then off to a really nice restaurant - Franca Scala for dinner.  We'd discovered it the previous night because the chef didn't have anyone there so was playing the piano and we went up to listen.  We were given free Ouzo and Souma so felt a bit obliged to go back.

Day 3 on Paros
Headed south to explore today.  Not as nice a day though as very windy.  We took the ferry across to Anti Paros

This is us on our little scooter
Anti Paros has a famous cave on it, which was our main reason for going there.

Looking back to the main island
We'd planned to go to the top of the main island but it was too windy - gusting to about 60kph, so headed back to our hotel and went exploring the town by foot.
The footing beside this church were well and truly BC

A marble table - pilfered from some ancient site!
